Today’s building is an enlargement, designed in 1926-28 by architect Alberto Alpago-Novello, to close in a monumental way the southern perspective of Piazza Duomo, in order to host the Province’ administration, whose previous seat was in the nearby Piloni palace.
The new building was erected where there used to be the old city grammar school, recorded since XIV century, just in front of the two churches of St. John and St. Andrew, the first one demolished in 1555 to enlarge the cathedral square, and the second in 1873, due to the heavy damage caused by an earthquake. Today the palace is the seat of the Province Administration.
